Storyline of Alan Wake Part #1

Let's break down the game story into 2 parts as it can be quite complicated. Without further delay, let's dive into the story of the game Alan Wake.

Episode 1: Nightmare

The game begins with Alan Wake driving toward a lighthouse tower at night. He accidentally hits someone, and upon inspection, the person dies. As he turns towards the body, the car lights suddenly turn off. Mysteriously, the person's body disappears. As Alan proceeds, he's startled to see the person he hit come back to life, but is now possessed by a spirit of darkness or Dark Presence. The possessed person is still chasing Alan and ranting about how Alan's stories about his death are the reason that the person wants to kill him. At the same time, Alan has survived and received assistance from a man named Clay Steward who provided shelter in an old cabin. However, not long after that, the cabin door locks, leaving Clay dead at the hands of the possessed person. Suddenly, a light appears, illuminating a path while a mysterious voice from the sky instructs Alan to follow it. Alan used the light to kill the possessed man and made it to the lighthouse.

After, he woke up with Alice in a car on a boat heading to Bright Falls. When they arrived, Alan and Alice went to the restaurant to get the cabin keys from the host, Carl Stucky. While inside, Rose, a big fan of Alan Wake, greeted Alan. Rose informs Alan that Carl is in the bathroom. As Alan heads towards the bathroom, he encounters a dark hallway. An elderly woman named Cynthia Weaver warns him not to proceed due to potential danger in the darkness. Alan ignored the bathroom door and suddenly heard a mysterious woman named Barbara Jagger tell him she had the key to a cabin near Cauldron Lake because he was sick. Alan accepted the key innocently, and as they left, Cynthia considered herself lucky. On the way back to the car, Carl Stucky came out, shouting and reminding Alice to get the cabin key, but it was too late.

Upon reaching Cauldron Lake, Alan switched on the generator to illuminate the whole cabin due to Alice's fear of darkness. Alice instructed him to go to his room because she had a surprise for him. Don't get the wrong idea hehe. Actually, the surprise was a typewriter. Alice took Alan to the city of Bright Falls because she was worried about him and had read a book called Creator's Dilemma by Emil Hartman. The book is about issues faced by artists. When Alice heard of Dr. Hartman's techniques, she attempted to seek his guidance for Alan's condition. Dr. Hartman agreed to help, but only if Alan visited his clinic in the city of Bright Falls. On hearing this, Alan became enraged and the two argued. Suddenly, the lights went out for a moment, and Barbara Jagger was seen watching the two of them. Alan exited the cabin to alleviate his tension, but soon after, the cabin lights went out again and Alice shrieked in terror. Alan quickly entered the cabin, but it was too late. Alice had drowned in the lake. Without hesitation, Alan plunged into the lake to assist Alice. Shockingly, Alan woke up in the car with a bloody head. Alan proceeded to drive to the gas station to search for aid. This was the title of the book he had attempted to write but could not due to Writer's Block. Suddenly, Alan discovered a paper on the ground with the word "Departure" written on it. The second page of the paper described the protagonist being attacked by a killer on foot at night. These events actually came true, and Alan encountered Carl Stucky, who was possessed by the Dark Presence. Alan eventually defeated Carl and reached the gas station. Oddly enough, the board displayed that the current date was a week following Alan's jump into the lake. Shortly thereafter, the police arrived, led by Sarah Breaker. It was even more surprising when Sarah informed Alan that there were no longer any cabins at Cauldron Lake due to volcanic eruptions that occurred in the 1970s. Despite Sarah showing him the condition of Cauldron Lake, Alan insisted on going. Eventually, Sarah revealed the truth that Cauldron Lake did not have any cabins.

Episode 2: Taken

Alan is at the police station, undergoing a medical exam when he receives a call from someone claiming to be the perpetrator of Alice's theft. The caller requests a solo meeting at a location known as Lover's Peak. Just before leaving, Alan discovers that Dr. Emil Hartman was also present, causing him to get angry since Dr. Emil was the one responsible for the entire problem. Barry, Alan's friend and literary agent, picked him up soon after he became concerned about Alan and Alice not responding to his calls for a week. They drove to Elderwood National Park and rented a cabin. Alan then explained to Barry his experience in Bright Falls, and Barry only accepted that Alice was taken. Alan requests Barry to remain at the cabin while he goes to Lover's Peak. On his journey, Alan was thrown off the cable car and surrounded by Taken, individuals possessed by the Dark Presence. He was rescued by a man named Ben Mott. Alan soon realizes that Mott is the same person he met on the ship and suspects him of being the kidnapper. Alan inquires about Alice's whereabouts but Mott refuses to speak until given the entire Departure script. In the end, Mott escapes before answering Alan's questions. Unable to locate Mott, Barry contacts Alan who is alarmed by the presence of vicious crows surrounding his cabin. Shortly after, Mott contacts Alan and demands delivery of all Departure scripts within 48 hours. Alan agrees, hoping to save his wife. Ultimately, Alan successfully defeats the crows and tasks Barry with locating Ben Mott. Although he strives to complete the Departure scripts within the given timeframe, Alan is unsuccessful in producing any words.  Barry collected all the Departure scripts with Rose the waitress' help, but he didn't know that Barbara Jagger was controlling Rose.

Episode 3: Ransom

Alan and Barry went to visit Rose at her house. However, upon arrival, they both passed out after drinking Rose's coffee. In his subconscious, Alan encountered Barbara Jagger, and at the same time, he heard the mysterious voice that assisted him during the initial incident, urging him to turn on the lights. Upon waking up, Alan promptly turned on the lights, and the Dark Presence disappeared, including Barbara Jagger herself. Alan now understands that Barbara Jagger is connected to the Dark Presence and the mysterious voice knows how to defeat it. Alan realizes he has only 24 hours to meet Ben Mott and quickly departs from Barry and Rose who are still unconscious. As he exits the house, an armed FBI agent named Nithingale intercepts Alan. The agent responded to the landowner's call because he suspected that Alan and Bary were still present even though it was past Rose's bedtime. Alan fled into the forest, eventually arriving at Pat Maine's radio station. Agent Nithingale shot at the radio station window, causing Alan to escape through the back door while still on the run.

Alan arrived at the mining area, but Mott didn't show up until late at night. He called Alan and asked to meet at Mirror Peak because of a change in plans. When Alan arrived at the location, he overheard Mott talking to Barbara Jagger. Mott was frightened because he had been bluffing about Alice, and it was Alan's boss who had ordered him to write the Departure script. Alan discovered Mott injured and briefly saw Barbara Jagger before the Dark Presence dragged Mott to his death. To avoid suffering the same fate, Alan grabbed a flare and lit it. He ended up falling off a cliff into a river but was rescued by a nearby individual.
